Important values to the community that we could reinforce in the design.
1.Pride in their heritage:It is important to highlight the efforts of the city and private owners to preserve the mills as an important part of the community heritage and culture, those efforts can be evidenced in:
1. Different buildings are being refurbished and adapted, like Olympia and Granby Mills now serve as student housing.
Architectural response:
Preservation
2. Identity:
As described by Bob, in past people living in downtown use say as a joke: "don't go there or you'll get back with your ass kicked", they are proud of living there, they cherish their tradition and identity as part Olympia and Granby community.
Architectural response:
We'll have to give them a project to recognize as their own, their contribution to Columbia's future development, and strengthen Granby and Olympia heritage in the design.
3. Community is starting to promote social life in Granby and Olympia (and it seems that they love it):
701 Whaley, one of the few buildings in the area that serves the community is a successful example of how a project can engage the community and activate a dormant part of Columbia.
Architectural response:
Through our design promote areas in which this kind of projects (magnets of social interaction) are encouraged
